Mixed by Tom Middleton - One More Tune.
Tom Middleton is a pioneering electronic producer and DJ who needs little introduction. Renowned worldwide for his visionary projects as Global Communication, Jedi Knights, Cosmos, AMBA and others, he’s been responsible for landmark productions, compilations and Essential Mixes. He’s worked with friends and artists such as Ulrich Schnauss and Aphex Twin and DJ’d alongside bands and artists as varied as Duran Duran, Mark Ronson and Faithless. In 2009 alone, he has reworked Razorlight, The Verve and The Presets.
Now, following the success of his critically praised 3D offering, Tom Middleton once again hooks-up with Renaissance to present one of the most innovative compilation concepts in recent times – One More Tune. To take it a step further, Tom has remixed or edited each of the 14 tracks he chose and then presented them over 2 discs in mixed and specially selected DJ-friendly unmixed format.
“The concept is simple,” says Tom, “It’s a celebration of hand-picked past, present and future end of the night anthems. Some familiar, others more underground, yet all truly memorable, rich in harmony and emotion. It also provides a fantastic opportunity to re-define a handful of personal favourites. Sequencing a compilation of unsubtle anthems isn’t an easy process, so be prepared for more than a few euphoric hands in the air moments! Most importantly, each track represents an unforgettable club or festival moment during the last two decades.”
Kicking off with an incredible remix of the seminal Last Rhythm, Tom immediately shows us that OMT is going to be one classy piece of fun. Along the way he moves on to take in Humate, Agora Rhythm and Akabu before rounding out with three of dance music’s greatest classics. Derrick May’s ‘Strings Of Life’ (a serious challenge to remix!) and, in the spirit of a true end of night, a rousing finale in the form of a ‘blurring’ of Steve Horn’s self-titled ‘The Horn’ and Joe Smooth’s timeless ‘Promised Land’. Listen out as Tom uses the Promised Land acapella to extend the exchange between the two, creating a true ‘moment’ and sign-off to an already incredible mix.
