RC-Night - Sven: - Well, let’s start ! Interview with Johan Gielen at the Street Parade. Are you for the first time in Switzerland ?
Johan Gielen: - Well, not the first time actually, but well the first time at the Street Parade. I was a few times here to play in the OXA club and the MAD club in Lausanne, and for this years is hmm… I had to make a choice between the Dance Parade in Holland in Rotherdam, and I’ve done this the last two years, so I think a made a nice choice and came here to Switzerland if you see how many people are here and every thing...!
Sven: - It’s once something else then! ;-)
Johan Gielen: - Yeah, you know it’s like I couldn’t go to the Love Parade ether this year in Berlin, because I was in Ibiza and this date was fitting right into my schedule, so I’m very happy here to have the opportunity to play to the Street Parade here in Switzerland!
Sven: - When you play in the MAD and in the OXA, which was this year if I’m not wrong, how did you enjoy the party there ?
Johan Gielen: - Well, I must say that I’m travelling a lot over the world right now. In Switzerland it mazes me every time I’m here you know… The people are up into the music and they are really supporting the DJ when you play here, and that’s very very nice because we are travelling a lot and sometimes you just get very tired and we are down in the club and the people all away on your music it gives you a lot of energy!
Sven: - You like a lot of other big DJs played in a lot of really big events like Trance Energy or Sensation. How do you get the inspiration to built your sets so great every time ?
Johan Gielen: - Well, a lot of DJs are preparing their sets when the go to a big event like Sensation or Trance Energy or anything. I always make sure that I’m on time when I have to play in a big party like that and see how the atmosphere is, who is playing in front of me, who is playing after me and I never never make a set ready before because I just want to do it naturally. It’s… I thinks it’s a connection between me and the crawl. If I see the crawl wants this, I play this you know. I’m not a DJ who play the music for myself, but for the crawl then this is while I never play the same set you know. It’s always different, and it depends on the atmosphere and location and the country you’re in.
Sven: - When did you start with djing, by the way ?
Johan Gielen: - Ahhh.. 15 or 16 years ago, and like everybody does I think; small parties, school parties, in the local club and then I became residents in Holland in club from 50 to 100 people. I was working there for 12 years and then I’ve been two year to Japan. There was a lot of experience for me and I think I’ve learned there that there is more then just playing in a club locally, and then I became rocking together with ID&T they started to push me very hard, and I think the put me the right spots on!
Sven: - What are you doing at this time with ID&T, as I know Johan Gielen Recorded came out from there ?
Johan Gielen: - Year, I do the mix CDs with ID&T. The new one I’m working on right now! On the second week of September the Recorded 3 will come out and it will be a double CD this time. So more music in one package! ;-) I’m putting out my records thought ID&T. I don’t have an exclusive base, but they are doing such a great job for me that I don’t have to go somewhere else. I have my radio show on their radio station, every Saturday night between eight and ten. And, year of cause, I’m doing the big parties with ID&T and everything...!
“Ambulance alarm”... There you go! First people going down. It’s about 36 degrees, so... ;o)
Sven: - You’re right! ;o) Let’s talk about something else… How do you enjoy the party and the people when you play in an event like Trance Energy, etc ?
Johan Gielen: - You know, it’s very special because… You know, if you in Holland in a party like Sensation… There are 40’000 people! And playing in front of 40’000 people, it still gives me the cues feeling you know… It’s like… The people are yelling my name, they are enjoying my music, it’s… I think it’s the best thing a DJ can do, playing for a big thing like that! I really enjoy it and hop I can do it for a long long time!!!
Sven: - You are working with Svenson in your project Svenson & Gielen. What are you doing there ?
Johan Gielen: - Well, I’m working whith Sven since seven years now and we’ve done the project Svenson & Gielen. We’ve done some remixes for the Leria Man and Tiësto and other ones. But right now I’m working on my solo album, which is coming out next year in the second or third month. And, I’m not only working with Svenson on this. Simply the reason are that I want do surprise a lot of people. I’m going to work with some people in England, some big name from Holland… I can’t tell yet who it is, but yeah there is a big surprising album coming on the way and I’m very very happy! I’m working now, at the moment I’m very busy because it’s my summer tour on stop and September I will coming back into the studio and finishing the album. I think it’s going to be finished by the end of the year!
Sven: - That’s really great! If we invite you again to play here in Switzerland, will you come ?
Johan Gielen: - Oh year! Definitively! Definitively!
